Hundreds Gather Together to Remember Loved Ones

Church 2015

Emma and Elena Wragg remembered their mother and grandmother Jennifer along with hundreds of other guests last night and raised £10,000 for the Hospice.

Patients, relatives, staff and volunteers enjoyed a poignant multi-faith service led by leaders from the Christian, Hindu, Muslim and Jewish Faiths. Remembrance readings from a variety of guests were interspersed with prayers and Christmas carols led by the impressive St John’s Wood Church Choir.

Over 20 candle lights flickered along St John’s Wood High Street as the congregation walked from the church back to the Hospice where Sylvia Young Choir greeted them with festive songs.

Stars dedicated by loved ones in recent weeks were displayed throughout the marquee as guests were treated with mince pies donated by Marks & Spencer Finance and Tesco St John’s Wood as well as mulled wine and canapés.

The Lord Mayor of Westminster welcomed everyone to the Hospice before the Christmas Tree lights were switched on to everyone’s delight.

It is not too late to dedicate a star in memory of a friend or family member. The Wall of Stars will be displayed in the Hospital of St John and St Elizabeth until mid-January 2015. You can view your messages in the Book of Dedication in the Chapel and all the donations from this year appear online here.

We would like to thank all the performers and those who spoke at Light up A Life, Hyman’s Robertson for their sponsorship and everyone who attended this special event and has donated to the appeal.

Join us this weekend for our Paddington Christmas Fayre Saturday December 12 and Sunday December 13 and our inaugural Light Up A Life service on Sunday evening.
