The St John’s Hospice Summer Fayre raised nearly £50,000 this weekend after a record turnout over two days.

Tens of thousands of people flocked to St John’s Wood Church Gardens, on what turned out to be the hottest weekend of the year.

After a rainy start to Saturday, the sun came out and brought visitors flooding in.

The Fayre had something for everyone. 12 fairground rides filled the Park and Wellington Place including a Big Wheel, Mega Slide, Train, Fun House, Helter Skelter and Walking on Water.

Over 50 stalls were on site selling a variety of items from clothes, to jewellery to bags and accessories. Character balloons were a huge hit with all the children who also enjoyed getting their faces painted.

Peppa Pig was the star attraction and appeared at intervals throughout the day. Hundreds of children visited the popular TV character and walked away with a lucky dip prize to keep.

The fun did not stop there, a pirate themed treasure hunt awarded winners with chocolate coins and pirate stickers, along with a beat the goalie competition and sumo wrestling contest.

A Moroccan feast, savoury and sweet crepes, Greek pastries and BBQ fed hungry visitors and an ice-cream van was on site serving a variety of cones and iced lollies.

Over 200 volunteers helped the Fayre to run smoothly with a special thanks to Citi Bank for sending many of their staff members to help with everything including stewarding, selling ride tickets and supervising the fairground.

We would like to say a special thanks to our Summer Fayre sponsors Savills, OGR Stock Denton LLP Solicitors, Abbey Properties, Casualty First and Barclays.

All funds raised from this weekend’s Fayre will help St John’s Hospice to provide free care for over 3,000 patients and their families this year.

The next event will be the Hospice Christmas Fayre taking place on the weekend of the 30th November, please do join us then for festive celebrations and Christmas shopping.
