Lymphoedema Service
Lymphoedema is a swelling that can occur in any part of the body but is most commonly seen in the arm or leg -
and is caused by problems with the lymphatic system.
St John's Hospice provides a service to help patients with lymphoedema, by reducing the disability as far as
possible and then teaching patients and their carers how to manage their condition at home. The service is
provided by qualified Lymphoedema Therapists, with extensive experience in cancer and palliative care.
We accept referrals from a wide range of services including acute Hospital and Community Services. You do
not have to be referred by your doctor to access our service, self referrals are also welcome.
The Lymphoedema Service at St. John's Hospice provides a range of services that includes:
- Assessment of upper and lower limb lymphoedema;
- Advice on skin care, exercise and compression hosiery;
- Manual Lymph Drainage;
- Multi-Layer Bandaging; and
- Education for patients to undertake simple lymph drainage.
