Medical Team
St. John's Hospice is a centre of excellence in medical palliative care.
This is a specialist field of medicine involvig expert knowledge of serious illness, the management of symptoms it may cause, including pain relief, and the whole range of illness that may affect people and their carers.
The team is lead by the Medical Director, Dr Chris Farnham, who is a consultant in palliative medicine, and includes a speciality doctor, as well as a specialist registrar and a foundation year 2 doctor, who are undertaking training as specialists as part of their NHS training programme.
The medical team works in the in-patient unit, day services and visits people at home as part of the community team. Because the hospice is based in the Hospital of St. John and St. Elizabeth, a full range of investigations and treatments are available.
Carers or families who wish to discuss any issues with the medical team, should speak to the nursing team to arrange an appointment.
The medical team liaise closely with hospital consultants and general practitioners and are happy to offer advice to colleagues.
