Who could benefit from attending the Day Services Centre at St John's? The Day Services Centre at St John's provides palliative care, complementary therapies and a range of activities and resources to access in a safe and supportive space. People are welcome to attend at all stages of their illness ; when newly diagnosed, in treatment, living with symptoms of their illness and when requiring specialist care input and advice.
Which day should I attend? Our services are mainly divided into two specific programs, however flexibility and client choice are very important in selecting the most appropriate day(s) and times to attend.
· Mondays and Wednesdays are mainly but not exclusively attended by people with a diagnosis of HIV or Aids who tend to be of the age range of 25 - 60.
· The Tuesday and Friday program is generally but not exclusively attended by people with a diagnosis of cancer, and while they tend to be older the age range of those attending is very broad.
· The Centre is open form 10:00am to 5:00pm on all four days; you are not required to attend for the whole day. Your choice of which days to attend may depend on your wish for privacy and confidentiality with regard to personal preference, diagnosis, treatment etc.
What will happen on my first visit to Day Services? Staff will show you around the centre and describe the services. Individual needs are identified and a plan of attendance agreed. Everyone who comes to Day Services has his or her needs reviewed regularly.
What services are provided?
· Medical and clinical consultation and care · Access to a Multidisciplinary Team (social worker, physiotherapist, OT etc) · A range of Complementary Therapies · Arts Activities · Exercise Classes · Specialist Workshops, Sessions and Groups · Information Resources (e.g. internet access)
How will I get there? Transport is provided for those people who have difficulty accessing public transport or have mobility problems and are living in the catchment area for our Ambulance and Volunteer Drivers.
