What does an Occupational Therapist do? Occupational therapists work with people of all ages and conditions whose abilities may have changed due to the physical and psychological effects of their illness.
At St John's clients are seen by an Occupational Therapist throughout all stages of their illness. The service is offered to occupational clients in the Hospice, attending Day Care or those seen at home therapist by the Community Care team.
How does an Occupational Therapist help me to return home after an illness? An Occupational Therapist will evaluate your functional abilities and will assess how your home environment influences these abilities. For example the height of your furniture may make it harder to move around or sit and stand.
Some people who have been in hospital for a long time or have undergone significant changes may find a home assessment beneficial in alleviating concerns regarding a discharge home.
What does an Occupational Therapy assessment entail? The Occupational Therapist will go through all the things a person needs to do in a typical day.
An Occupational Therapist may be contacted Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 020 7806 4014 or email hospice.info@hje.org.uk
Occupational Therapists are State Registered.
