St John's volunteers can help in ALL aspects of our community:

The Hospice
We have a large, active group of volunteers who offer hands-on practical and emotional
support to our patients. The Volunteer's primary function is one of befriending and companionship although help is given in practical ways such as serving meals and refreshments or arranging flowers with patients. If you think you might be interested in volunteering at the Hospice, please phone Sophie on 020 7806 4049 or email sophie.mcewan@hje.org.uk

Befriender Scheme
You could apply to become a Befriender to one of our patients in the local community.  Befrienders offer patients primarily emotional support. Also, they can give help in maintaining a social life i.e. accompanying to the theatre, art galleries, cinema, or going for walks. Befrienders are an essential part of our holistic approach to patients living with a life threatening or terminal illness.  If you are able to offer at least 2 hours per week voluntarily befriending,  please phone Georgina on 020 7806 4027 or email georgina.long@hje.org.uk for further information.

Fundraising
We are also in need of volunteers to help with our fundraising efforts:

  • Helping at our many events
  • Assisting with mailings and appeals
  • Helping with collections and carol singing
  • Organising community events, for example, in schools

If you can spare a little time, please call our Community Fundraiser on 020 7806 4074
or email fundraising@hje.org.uk.
