About this role

St John’s Hospice support over 4,000 people with life-limiting illnesses and their families across North London each year.  Our services include community care, Hospice@Home, day services, inpatient care, social and welfare support, therapies and bereavement support.  We care for anyone over the age of 18 no matter their socio economic, religious or residential status.

Our services are in more demand than ever with two other local hospices closing services and so we are looking for an energetic, dedicated Donor Engagement Executive to join our Fundraising team to help in raising vital funds. The team is located at the hospice in St John’s Wood but this role is being offered in a hybrid working model. The post holder will look after mid-level donors, corporate partners, create stewardship plans for regular givers and be an integral part in applications across the team.

The team is busy, dynamic and achieves above expected targets – we do this by working together not just as a fundraising team but also with the wider hospice clinical teams. The role will allow the holder to work alongside the fundraising and hospice teams unique helping us improve patient care and maintain donor engagement.

What are the key responsibilities of this role?

  • To take the lead on and look after a portfolio of growing mid-level giving for the Hospice - and in consultation with line manager – put together a first-time plan and annual forecast for this area.
  • To work closely with fundraising colleagues leading on other income streams – Partnerships, Trust and Foundation, Community, In Memory and Commemorative Giving, also Marketing and Communications - to create and implement seamless donor journeys that help Hospice supporters feel engaged, valued and motivated to give.
  • To work with Marketing colleagues on our new Regular Giving programme inputting to key messages and donor communications; picking up on supporter queries and looking for ways to uplift regular givers to mid-level or beyond.
  • To take a lead on prospect research for the Fundraising team, bringing a consistent approach to research and record keeping, and managing annual subscriptions for online research tools and memberships etc.
  • To support line manager and Director of Fundraising on occasional projects, proposals and report writing
  • To play a part in shared-team initiatives e.g. our Winter Appeal, Big Give and high level events, including an annual fundraising gala, helping to make activities a success and ensure mid-level donor are involved as appropriate
  • To work with colleagues on gathering Hospice information e.g. patient case studies and service updates as the basis of engaging, accurate and timely content for donor communications, impact reports, fundraising proposals etc.
     

Am I the right person for this role?

  • Track record of planning for, meeting with, cultivating and asking donors for gifts
  • Experience of regular giving programmes and thinking about how to retain and move supporters along the donor continuum is desirable
  • Experience of organising meetings, site visits, presentations and occasional events to build donor engagement
  • Experience of using CRM system - Salesforce or similar - to record and track fundraising approaches and to support prospect identification and/or targeted approaches is desirable
  • Experience of delivering against plans, targets and forecasts is desirable
  • Good interpersonal skills, and ability to build authentic relationships with people from all walks of life and levels of seniority
  • Excellent written, oral communication and presentation skills and a good grasp of how to put together compelling copy for different purposes and audiences
  • Proactive and problem-solving approach to work and ability to see the positive in people and tasks
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritise workload; as well as having awareness of when to refer to/involve line manager in work-based challenges and opportunities
  • Genuine interest in and commitment to Hospice work and ability to share this in communications with donors
  • Willing and able to work at occasional evening and weekend events, both on and offsite
