A huge well done to our five runners who took part in the London Marathon on Sunday 28th April 2019 in aid of raising funds for our Hospice, St John’s! Even with Storm Hannah looming, the day kept dry and spectators came out in hoards to support the 40,000 Marathon runners.
Team St John’s have raised an incredible £11,335.77 so far after undertaking the 26.2 mile race. Our runners got very creative with their fundraising, from organising pub quizzes to a sponsored leg wax!
We are so lucky to have such a dedicated team; Sageet who ran in memory of this father said, “Having said I would never run a marathon again, I had to do something for the Hospice. They are a really great bunch and it’s nice to give back to them”. Sageet smashed his £2,000 target, raising over £4,000!
Lauren and Keith, who were taking on their first London Marathon, ran in memory of Lauren’s friend Lottie. After Lottie passed away after being cared for by the Hospice, Lauren and Keith also ran the Great South Run for St John’s.
Robert Abraham who alone has raised £2,073.75 sped around the course in just over three hours!
We are so privileged to have such a fantastic Marathon team. Although the day can be emotional for those who are running in memory of a loved one, they can feel comforted to know that the money they have raised will be spent providing expert palliative care to all our patients and families.
