Help us to create a tranquil outdoor space for our patients

We need your help to refurbish our current Day Care Unit’s garden, creating a tranquil outdoor space for our patients, their family members, caregivers, and staff to enjoy.

Research shows the fantastic impact that being in an outdoor space can have on the wellbeing and quality of life of people living with life-limiting and chronic illnesses. Yet, a large proportion of our patients do not have access to an outdoor space at home.

By refurbishing our garden, we will be able to create a safe, tranquil, and enjoyable space for our patients, their families, and caregivers. We believe this will help improve their mood and sleep, reduce anxiety, and promote a feeling of calm and tranquillity. It will also introduce a new space for them to enjoy spending time together outside of the traditional clinical setting.

The re-design will transform the Day Care Unit garden and improve its accessibility enabling our patients, family members, caregivers and staff to enjoy the serenity of the outside space.

Our plans have been made with our patient’s needs at the forefront and will see the garden made fully accessible with widened and repaved pathways complete with a new ramp, ensuring that, for the first time, each of our patients will be able to enjoy it. The plants and herbs chosen will also create an all-year-round sensory experience.

With the creation of designated areas for seating and areas for outdoor therapies, as well as the introduction of raised beds, we will also be able to introduce a programme of new patient activities, including garden therapy and outdoor movement sessions.
