St John’s Hospice becomes SMB’s Charity of the Year

We are pleased to announce that we have been chosen as West End London Law Firm, Simons Muirhead Burton’s (SMB) Charity of the Year.

Founded in 1971, SMB is recognised by the legal press and the wider industry as a leader in many practice areas. Their firm is rooted in civil liberties, and they believe strongly that success is not just measured by financial performance or accolades, but also by how they can leave the world better than they found it. One of the ways they do this each year is by choosing a Charity of the Year to support through firm and external activities.

This year, they have selected St John’s as their chosen charity and there is a particularly special reason behind this.

John Harrington, Senior Associate, Joint Head of CSR at SMB explains: “St John’s Hospice is an exemplary charity that provides quality, holistic care for people who are living with life-limiting illnesses and their families. This charity is a particularly poignant one for all of us at SMB. Our usual process of selecting a Charity of the Year involves nominating several charities of interest and having a firm wide vote. This year, however, our choice was unanimously agreed upon by the whole firm before the year even began. We have chosen St John’s Hospice, not only in recognition of their incredible work but also as the charity that took care of our dear friend and colleague Russell Winn before his sad passing in 2022.”

As the year progresses, SMB’s team will be organising a variety of activities and taking on challenges to raise funds to support our services, including joining our Royal Parks Half Marathon team in October.

Charlotte Locks-Moro, Director of Fundraising at St John’s Hospice says: “We at St John’s would like to thank all the staff at SMB for nominating us as their Charity of the Year. It is only through partnerships such as this that we are able to support and care for 4,500 patients, family members and loved ones each year.

St John’s is a true community encompassing our patients and their families, staff, amazing volunteers, and partners such as SMB. So, we warmly welcome the team to our community and look forward to working alongside them to create moments of joy and happiness for all those we care for.”
