Taste the World

Celebrate a world of flavours and raise vital funds for St John’s Hospice by hosting a food sale this June.

About the event

At St John’s Hospice, we recognise that illness does not discriminate - it affects people of all ages, backgrounds, genders, ethnicities, sexualities, and beliefs. Just as we come together to provide quality, holistic care for anyone living with a life-limiting illness, our new fundraiser, Taste the World, celebrates being united by food and connected by care.

We’re inviting you to take part by hosting your own food sale on any day that works for you in June. Whether at your school, workplace, or with friends and family, you can sell your favourite baked goods, a cherished family recipe, or store-bought treats from around the world and bring people together while raising vital funds, one bite at a time.

To take part, download our free resources above. These include posters to advertise your event, food and allergen cards, bunting and more! If you have any questions or would like more resources, please contact us using the details below.

Don’t forget to tag us in your pictures on social media or share some via email. We’d love to hear how your Taste the World fundraiser went!

Why Taste the World matters

  • A symbol of inclusivity: The joy of food is universal. Everyone is welcome to participate, whether sharing a family recipe, exploring new flavours, or simply coming together in support of our community.
  • A taste of togetherness: Across every culture, food is a source of comfort and healing. This event reminds us that no matter where we come from, we all experience love, loss, and the importance of community.
  • Supporting compassionate care: Every bite taken, every dish shared, and every donation made supports our commitment to celebrating and amplifying life, enabling people to live well for as long as possible.

How to collect and send donations

Online

The easiest way to fundraise is by setting up a JustGiving page:

  1. Visit www.justgiving.com/campaign/tastetheworld-stjohns.
  2. Click 'Start Fundraising’ and follow the steps to personalise your page.
  3. Enable Gift Aid to boost donations by 25% at no extra cost.
  4. Please remember to tick the box that will allow your page to collect Gift Aid and to personalise your page as much as possible. Add a profile and cover photo, explain your story and why and how you are fundraising for St John’s. Don’t forget to tell people how their donations will help St John’s and why their support matters to you.
  5. Set a fundraising target! A target can be a great motivator, not only for you, but also to those you are considering donating to your page!

Another online option could be using the Toucan Giving app, where all your charity donations are stored in one place. Check out Toucan Giving by clicking here.

Offline

Prefer collecting donations in person? We can provide you with collection tins or buckets and sponsorship forms. Contact fundraising@hje.org.uk to request these items.

Please send cash or cheques to Fundraising Department, St John’s Hospice, 60 Grove End Road, London, NW8 9NH and ensure cheques are made payable to 'St John’s Hospice'. Alternatively, pay in the money you raised online at www.stjohnshospice.org.uk/donate.

Please remember to reference ‘Taste the World’ when paying in your fundraising online or when sending us cash or cheques.

Other fundraising ideas

As well as hosting a food sale, you might like to explore some other ways you can use food as a way to come together to raise funds for St John’s Hospice.

  • Organise a ‘Dine & Donate’ dinner party with friends and cook dishes from around the world or ask everyone to bring something. Ask your friends to donate what they would normally spend on a restaurant meal or charge a ticket price. You could even add some competition and make it a Come Dine with Me style event!
  • Host a food sale or Lunch & Learn at your workplace to enjoy food from different cultures while learning about your colleague’s traditions, heritage and stories. A great way to promote diversity, inclusion and learn more about those you work with.
  • Transform the classic school bake sale into an exciting learning experience where students and teachers can sell treats and snacks in an International Food Market fair. Your school could even host a world cultures day with storytelling and quizzes to learn fun facts about the history, geography and cultures of each country.
  • Create a charity cookbook PDF with global recipes to download for a small donation. You can ask your colleagues, friends or fellow students to share their favourite recipes to work together to raise funds for St John’s Hospice.
