Challenge events

Thank you for choosing to support our cause by taking part in this challenge event. We’re excited to have you join Team St John’s! To complete your registration, please carefully read and agree to the terms and conditions outlined below.

Fundraising

By registering for this fundraising challenge, you agree to raise the minimum sponsorship amount, as outlined on the registration page.

1. You will refer to the St John’s safe and legal fundraising guidelines (and consult any further guidelines required to ensure safe and legal fundraising), and you must make clear to everyone supporting your fundraising that you are raising funds ‘in aid of’ St John's Hospice.
2. If your fundraising target is not met by the final deadline, you may be asked to cover the shortfall at the discretion of St John’s Hospice.
3. All fundraising activities must comply with relevant laws and ethical standards.
4. St John’s Hospice is not liable for any loss or damage incurred during your fundraising efforts.
5. By accepting a charity challenge place on Team St John’s, you commit to the following fundraising milestones to support local Hospice care. If milestones are not met, St John’s Hospice reserves the right to withdraw your charity challenge place at any time:
   
   • If you register more than 8 weeks before the event date, you agree to raise or donate at least 33% of the event target no later than 4 weeks before the event date.
   • You agree to raise or donate at least 66% of the event target no later than 2 weeks before the event date, regardless of registration date.
   • The full event target amount must be collected by St John’s Hospice no later than 4 weeks after the event date - unless otherwise agreed with St John’s Hospice.
   • If at any point youfeel you may struggle to reach the fundraising target, you must let St John’sHospice know as soon as possible so we can support you.

Withdrawal

6. The registration fee is non-refundable.
7. If you are unable to participate, deferring your place to a future event may be possible, but is subject to the charity's discretion. You agree to contact the event team to discuss your options as soon as possible once you know you need to withdraw.
8. If you withdraw after a specified date, you may still be expected to meet your full fundraising commitment, depending on the circumstances and the charity's discretion.
9. Donations already made will not be refunded unless specifically requested by the donor.
10. St John’s Hospice reserves the right to withdraw your charity place in the event at any time in exceptional circumstances, including if you do anything that brings, or could bring, the Hospice’s reputation into disrepute or if you do not comply with these terms and conditions.

Liability

11. You participate at your own risk.
12. You are responsible for ensuring your health, fitness, and training levels are adequate. Please consult a medical professional if unsure.
13. You must provide and maintain suitable equipment in safe, working condition where applicable (e.g. a roadworthy bicycle).

Privacy and Data Protection

14. Your personal data will be processed in accordance with our Privacy Policy and used solely for the administration of the event.
15. We will not share your information with third parties without your consent.
16. You agree that St John’s Hospice may use any photos taken of you or any appropriate quotes from email communications, social media posts or fundraising pages for promotion in digital and print media. You acknowledge that if you (or your next of kin) wish to withdraw this permission, you (they) must notify St John’s Hospice by contacting sjhmarketing@hje.org.uk. You also acknowledge that while St John’s Hospice will use all reasonable endeavours to comply with any such notice of withdrawal of permission, it cannot guarantee that materials already in public circulation at the date on which the request is received will be withdrawn. Please note that we will make every effort to remove images upon request, but cannot guarantee recall of materials already in circulation.

Final note

St John’s Hospice reserves the right to amend these terms and conditions at any time. Any changes will be communicated to all participants.
