About the event
Light Up a Life is a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together, reflect on the past year, and lovingly remember those who mean the most to us.
This year’s event takes place on Monday 8 December from 6 pm to 8:30 pm. We will begin at St John’s Wood Church with a multi-faith service featuring poems, readings, and music from local faith leaders, schoolchildren and beneficiaries of our hospice. Following the service, a reception will be held at Lord’s Cricket Ground, with drinks, nibbles, and entertainment from Rock Choir.
At the reception, we’ll be selling our range of festive cards, new charity gift cards and pin badges, as well as our Envelopes of Joy. For just £10, you can choose an envelope containing a surprise: from heartfelt messages of thanks from our hospice staff and patients to wonderful prizes such as festive gift sets and vouchers for local restaurants and businesses. Whatever awaits you, every envelope purchased will help raise vital funds for our hospice.
In addition, we will once again have our Book of Remembrance, giving you the chance to write a short message in memory of a loved one. You can add your message during the event, or if you are unable to attend, you can still contribute by emailing us at sjhevents@hje.org.uk or calling 020 3832 1436.
This year's event is proudly sponsored by Westminster City Council, Abbey Road and Regent’s Park Ward Budgets.
How your support helps
All funds raised through this year’s Light Up a Life will go towards extending our hospice Inpatient Unit admissions hours, so that patients, their loved ones, and carers can access our specialist care when it’s needed most.
Right now, people living with life-limiting illnesses often struggle to access palliative care in the evenings and at weekends. This can mean unwanted hospital admissions or families left coping alone. By extending our admissions service to seven days a week, we can reduce unnecessary emergency visits, ease the pressure on carers, and support more people to remain in their preferred place of care.
