About the event
With poems, readings and music, this multi-faith celebration is a chance to come together as a community and make an extraordinary difference for people living with life-limiting illnesses and their loved ones in your community. It is also an opportunity to celebrate and remember all those we love and have made a difference in our lives.
The service will be followed by a reception at our partner, Lord’s Cricket Ground, with drinks, canapés, and entertainment. This will be a fantastic opportunity to meet our staff and to hear more about our hospice and the impact you are helping to make throughout the community, as well as view the installation of all our ‘Light Up a Life’ lanterns.
- When: Monday 4 December, 6 - 9pm.
- Where: St John’s Wood Church, Prince Albert Rd, London NW8 7NE followed by a reception at Lord's Cricket Ground, St John's Wood Road, NW8 8QN.
- Ticket Price: Tickets cost £5 per person. Lanterns also cost £5, and you are invited to order as many as you wish. Each individual lantern can be personalised with your own special message.
Our ‘Light Up a Life’ lanterns are a new way of celebrating and remembering all those we love and have made a difference in our lives. These lanterns will be displayed in a beautiful installation on the night and will be available to take away at the end of the reception. Alternatively, they will be transferred and displayed at the hospice throughout the following week for all our community to enjoy, before you take yours home to cherish.
This year's event is proudly sponsored by Lord's Cricket Ground, Loveday Abbey Road and Westminster City Council.
How your support helps
All funds raised as part of ‘Light Up a Life’ will support our Winter Appeal. This year, our appeal aims to expand our community outreach to combat loneliness and isolation experienced by people living with life-limiting illnesses and their carers. Below you’ll find information on how your support can help to do just that:
- £10 could cover the travel expenses of a community befriender who will visit patients at home, providing a source of companionship and helping to reduce isolation.
- £35 could fund an at-home visit from a community nurse who can provide pain and symptom management as well as emotional and practical support to patients and their carers.
- £50 could help to fund our free ambulance service, safely transporting patients to and from the hospice and any of their external hospital appointments, ensuring that they do not become cut off from the community.
